Miss Flora is always picking her nose and eating it. At
first I thought it was just a bad habit, but recently discovered it quelled her
cravings for snacks. The following is a conversation Junior Accountant had with
Miss Flora last week.
Miss Flora – I’m hungry.
Junior Accountant – Okay, what do you want to eat?
Miss Flora (impatient as always) – It’s okay, I’ll eat my
boogers.
Junior Accountant – You can’t do that; it’s Yuk!
Miss Flora – No, they’re yummy.
And she promptly shoved her finger up her nose and walked
off.
I’ve since discovered that Miss Flora isn’t only saving me
money on snacks; she may be boosting her immune system naturally.
According to Dr Friedrich Bischinger, a top Austrian doctor,
“eating the dry remains of
what you pull out [of your nose] is a great way of strengthening the body's
immune system”.
“In terms of the immune system the nose is a filter in which
a great deal of bacteria are collected, and when this mixture arrives in the
intestines it works just like a medicine.”
"Modern medicine is constantly trying to do the same
thing through far more complicated methods, people who pick their nose and eat
it get a natural boost to their immune system for free."

I was torn between being a responsible (and respectable)
parent, and boosting her immune system naturally, so we tell her that she can
only pick her nose in the privacy of home when we don’t have visitors.
At least she’s stopped wiping it on the furniture!
(Please note: There is no need to call child services. Miss Flora's booger eating is in addition to her usual diet of fruit, vegetables and meat. We do not replace her meals with boogers.)
